An omission & chapters of the day

Yesterday I got caught up in the topic of my blog, and I forgot to give credit where credit was due. Harry Carton (http://www.asstr.org/~hcarton/) was instrumental in helping me equip my playroom. He also gave me some excellent ideas, including the upcoming Halloween chapters.

I would also like to acknowledge Sub Shop (http://sub-shop.com/). Not only do they have excellent gear to buy, they have quite a few excellent articles on bondage and domination, particularly for beginners, and some of their descriptions (and toys ;-) gave me additional inspiration.

I decided to give you two chapters today, they are short and related. Many people have asked me what the story with Jess was, and here is your answer. Hope you enjoy!

Favor v. Tired

I got two interesting emails today that made me think a little. The first was from an anonymous reader, and it simply said, 'Lost a reader.' Given that the last chapter posted was about a gang bang, I suppose that was what caused it, and I accept that it is not for some people. However I wondered if Jeff had say, wandered into a slumber party and fucked all the girls there, the reader would have had the same complaint.

The second mail was from a reader questioning a comment I had made in my blog indicating that the relationship between Jeff and Rachel of Favor was different from the one between Becky and me in Tired. He saw both of them as 'a complete-submission you-decide-all-for-me-ones'.

In a sense, that is true, but really it's a matter of perspective. In Tired, the protagonist was a man who felt the need to become dominant, and the interactions between him and the woman who was willing to experiment with, and ultimately enjoy, her submissive side.

Favor is about a woman who felt the need to be a submissive slut, ant the interactions between her and the man who was willing to experiment with, and ultimately enjoy, his dominant side.

So back to the gang bang, while that is something that would not have happened to Becky, because she was ultimately serving a single Master, it makes perfect sense for Rachel, who wants to be as slutty and submissive as she can be. As Sir in Tired experimented with the different traits of dominance on a selection of women, each with their own take on submissiveness, so Rachel will experiment with a different selection of men. But don't worry, Jeff will get his share of fun as well!

I had not designed the two stories like this, but its funny the way my mind works. Anyway, have fun!

What do you have against Roman numerals?

I was using roman numerals, and I can't believe how many people complained about them! So I changed it to arabic numbers.

Don't write to me telling me how I shouldn't have caved. I was not invested in the numbering, so if it makes people happier, I don't have a problem with it.

Plus, I had nothing else on my mind today, except how much ISPs suck, but that is a rant for another place.

I never read this genre, but...

I get a lot of mail like that. "I don't usually like BDSM, but I like yours." I don't know if people say that to everyone, of if there is something about mine that non-aficionados just like. I suspect it is because I try and let my characters do things that are consensual and desired by everyone.

I am not sure what draws them to the story in the first place, but in any event, welcome! Pull up a chair and stay a while!

Favor Part III on the way

I've begun posting Part III of the Favor. There are 11 chapters in this part, and they are all done and in various forms of editing.

This part moves a little bit to the 'harder' end of the spectrum. Judging from reader comments, there will be some people that won't like that. This is a different story than Tired, and the relationship between Jeff and Rachel is different than the one between Becky and me.

I wanted to try some things differently, so sorry if I disappoint. One other thing about this story is that there are a lot more chapters based on reader's comments and suggestions. This chapters in this story are more distinct; in many cases, they could be standalone stories in the Favor universe. As a result, it's easier to take a kernel of an idea from a reader and create a chapter out of it. There are at least three chapters in this story that are entirely based out of ideas that I got from readers, even if those ideas were a one sentence thought.

Have fun with Part III, and tell me what you think!

BTW, this story got an awesome review from 54vette! Cool.

It's an honor just to be nominated

I also never expected the outpouring of positive comments that I have received.

And now a fan has told me that I've been nominated for Golden Clit! (Actually, more than one!) (http://www.asstr.org/~Rui_Favorites/Clitorides/nominees04.htm)

I thought about that and my first thought was that I certain that I did not deserve it. Than I thought, what the hell! Its good for my ego, and dog knows that my ego can use all the pumping that it can get.

So if you liked my story, go over and nominate me! (http://www.asstr.org/~Rui_Favorites/Clitorides/nominations2004.htm)

The people with the most nominations become finalist.

If you don't think I'm deserving, go nominate your favorite author!

Reader Comments

I get a lot of reader comments. Not even 1% of the people that download send comments, but that is still a lot of comment.

I really enjoy the comments. I've been having sexual fantasies since I was 12, and I've had lurid, extended ones since my late teens. But I never wrote them down, and I never felt the need to, not even to Penthouse Forum.

Over the last few years I've enjoyed the stuff I read on the net. I've thought that my fantasies were as good. Then one day I was in my hotel room, and I got a knock on the door. It was a woman coming to the wrong room looking for a party, and nothing happened, except, or course, in my mind. I had generated this extensive fantasy, and I realized, "Hey, here I am with lots of time to kill, a laptop, and a fantasy," so I wrote my first story.

It wasn't very good, the grammar was awful and I never completed it. Nonetheless, people liked it! And more importantly, they told me. So I whipped out my favorite fantasies and wrote Tired. It was a LOT longer than I anticipated when I started, but with help from Peter Z (editors are a REALLY good thing), it got pretty good. And people liked it a lot. I got lots of comments, and many suggestions.

Reader comments come in a number of varieties. Most are 'great story' or 'keep it coming'. Those are gratifying to get, but the ones that tell me what they liked about the stories are even better, though few and far between.

I also get a lot of suggestions for what people would like to see, or conversely, telling me what they've seen but wish that they hadn't.

For the former, I use quite a few of them, sadly usually un-credited, because the thought enters my brain and becomes the property of the characters, or because it was sent anonymously, or because I worry that people wouldn't want their names in lights. Just a note: if you give me an idea and would like to be credited if I use it, let me know!

Many of the ideas I get I don't use, either because I can't work it in (though in those cases, they often find their way into another story), or because they just don't fit the character (the protagonist of Tired will NOT kill and eat his slaves).

For the people who don't like what they say, I appreciate their thoughts, but it is my story and my fetishes, so they will see those things. I hope that it is not so overbearing that I lose my readers.

The things that I would like to hear most from my readers are how the story affected them. Much of what I right is pure fantasy, and I have had no real experience with the act. If you do, and the story makes you feel like its right on, or completely off, let me know, and let me know why. It will improve me in the future.

The other thing I'd like to hear is how people with a different view than I do think of my stories. I'll let it out, if it's not already obvious: I am a male, and I have a certain world view. As such, I don't really know if I am doing justice to the other views that I represent in the story. So if you are sub female, let me know if the story resonates, or is a pile of crap.

All that said, I am one of the worst offenders. I read a lot of the stories posted in this forum, and I have an awful track record of sending comments, even to the ones that I really enjoy. When I do send comments, they tend to be of the 'great story' variety. Sigh.

I resolve to send more comments! I hope you do to.

My Writing Style

I've never done a blog, so forgive me if I violate any style guidelines....

I am a new writer. The writing done here is the first I've ever done, and it turns out I enjoy doing it. When an idea strikes, I mull it over and then the words come flowing out. I have an idea of where my story starts, and a vague idea of where my story is going, but I usually don't have an end. I let the characters write themselves, and they take me in unexpected directions.

This can be good, and it can be bad. On the up side, I've gone to some interesting places that I hadn't imagined I'd be at. On the down side, I sometimes run out of steam.

When I start a story, the ideas are bursting out of me, and I have to get them down. That usually takes me to the first logical breakpoint. Unfortunately, since I don't always have a specific end in mind, I often don't have the drive to finish the story. Hence, some of the unfinished work. I still intend to go back and finish them, but doing so is a little more like work than the exuberance I feel for the first few chapters, so it's hard to get started. When I do get started, the characters usually suck me in again, so it is a good experience in the end, but it's hard to start.

One thing that has helped has been reader comments. Some suggestions have been completely off the wall and not at all in keeping with the characters, but for the most part the suggestions fuel my imagination. Claire Converts came about because of reader comments.

Anyway, a tad rambling, but just some insight on how I work, and why more of my stories are not complete.
